This is my altar as it currently is. I'm doing a blockage and poor luck removal combined with a money draw and abundance casting. Cernunnos is my patron god, and Gaia and Kali are my patron goddesses.
My practice is Shaman, not Wiccan. What I do is very basic and less ritualistic. No athame, no cauldron, no goblet, and well...most of the stuff you see in Wicca. I use salt, water, flame, and incense for my "representations". Herbs I value and have no more of are used as part of sacrifice and decoration, a clay bowl for the holding of all my elements, passed through smoke and flame, filled with salt water and a sprinkle of oil and herbs.
I painted the raised part of my altar, and may or may not repaint it in the future. I've repainted it twice over the past 10 years. I have also been a practicing shaman for nearly 2 decades.
The two small candle holders are from older candles I had, but I like the decor on them. The small candles are instead tea lights, white. The large candle holder is sterling silver.
I purchased the green candle here: [link] I purchase all my purpose candles, annointing oils, and resin incense there. The oil used: [link] The incense used: [link]
Currently I am working during the waning moon. The reason for this is to remove blockages, bad luck, and the hex. Yes, I've been dealing with a hex. I don't know from whom it comes from, but for the past three weeks I've been working to remove it, and now it is pretty much a whisper of what it was. The reason I know about the hex is due to too many coincidences. A hex is the only thing I have found to make sense of the whole mess. Since working on removing it things have improved immensely for me.
I'm also working on drawing in abundance, prosperity, and money. My macrame hasn't been selling (I've made less than $200 in 6 months) even though I've gotten a lot of inquiries and compliments. I have a convention I'm working as a vendor at on July 15th. I need all the luck I can summon.
When the moon is waxing and near full I'll be working on a money draw cast to bring in luck and wealth.
The food on the platter on my altar is my sacrifice and offering. I also did a painting no one will ever see because it was made for my patron god(desses). I burned it last night to affirm my offering is just for them. Sacrifice is very important in what I practice. It must be things I value, enjoy, and am reluctant to share with others. This makes it more valued as an offering. I also work with the fay, and they enjoy sweets immensely. When I leave offerings my work is amplified and tends to be more successful. It is something that has been done since ancient times, but many Pagans forget about. Many modern day Pagans also sacrifice things they don't really hold of value and are reluctant to share.
During the money draw casting during the waxing moon I will be sacrificing a piece of jewelry I make. No one will ever see this jewelry, and it will be burned then buried. It will be an elaborate piece, and I will make it with intent and focus.
Sacrificing and making offerings of things made by my own hands makes it more valuable and me more reluctant to give it up. I enjoy sharing what I make, and that is all the more reason I will not share this. I will not take a picture of it, and will make it in the privacy of my studio.
My altar is in my studio, the entire room blessed as sacred ground. Those who enter my room have told me they feel an immediate change. The room feels light, welcoming, safe, and sacred. Friends and family, a few not even knowing of my practice or unbelieving in such things, have told me they feel a change. It feels as though being enveloped by me. The room is me made into parts bound together, so it makes sense. I've also cast the door and windows to make it uncomfortable for anyone to enter without feeling as though they are intruding and become very uncomfortable. My husband did that once and hasn't done it again. My father-in-law has done it a couple of times when I was in the hospital. The doors in the house don't hold well. You close them and they'll unlatch and swing own. We are required to check to see if they're holding. Apparently my door didn't hold when I closed it before heading to the hospital, and my cats go in there (they're not allowed in there due to breakable and the fact I don't want cat hair everywhere). Jon went in to fetch them, and the second time he made double sure he sealed the door proper. When I returned home he mentioned he never wants to go in there again. It made him feel ill for a few hours, like something was hovering and wouldn't leave him be.
If you are an unbeliever in these things I don't care. Keep your rude and judgement comments to yourself. As the christian bible states: "do not judge and be not judged". The christian god made it clear he is the only one who may pass judgement. To christians keep what your messiah taught in mind: love and do not judge. Show kindness, not cruelty. Rude and snide comments, telling people they'll burn in hell (hell is a place created by christians to scare the masses; I know this because I have researched this and studied various religions so I have grounds and knowledge for debates and defense) or that some god hates them because no one can know what some god feels, thinks, or plans.
This is beautiful, and I enjoyed reading about your space and the things you keep there.
I'm...mostly Christian, but with bits of Buddhism and Wicca/maybe Shamanism thrown in. I need to do more research on Shamanism. I had an altar of sorts in my room at my parents house, but now that I've moved out I need to purposefully reconstruct one. ANYWAY, I was wondering if you could tell me more about Shamanism, or point me to a good resource on it? If you feel up to the conversation, we could note back and forth about it. ^_^
Thank you for sharing this, and thank you in advance for any reply. ^_^
I am an apprentice and not fit for teaching, but there are a lot of resource to drive from. I learn from an Elder and it's an oral tradition. Very little is taken from books. Shamanism differs from culture to culture, and predates nearly every religion on Earth. In ancient times the shaman functioned as the healer, doctor, adviser, therapist, priest, teacher, and a number of other roles. I practice a back to very basics tradition without the elaborate rituals seen in many other religions.
A good resource for information is local Native American reservations and websites. Many welcome the chance to teach outsiders, others do not. Do not be discourages. Ask question, but show the utmost respect. It is a practice ground deep in tradition.
There is some information online, but I rarely look to it because much of it is sketchy at best. The authors Don Miguel Ruiz and John Perkins are excellent resources. Do not turn to Wicca for information on the shaman traditions. They are two separate practices.
no, I can't do anything in that room as far as magicla working for a few reasons...
1. the folks I live with are Christians who fear anything to do with magic. 2. the studio doubles as a guest bedroom, because I no longer use it as my bedroom...(I sleep in my camper)
so... for magical working I set up a temporary altar in my camper, just for the working. good news is, I should be moving out sometime before the end of the year... (for good this time)
It's nice that you have a camper you can work in. Privacy, I feel, is key to practice. Distraction can prove problematic because you can't focus on what needs to be done. When I was living with my parents I had a "hidden in plain sight" altar. It looked like an organized display for pretty-ing my bedroom. My parents have fully embraced the fact none of their children are Christian though. LOL My youngest sister is I think Bala'i (spelling?) and my middle sister I think is simply spiritual. My husband is Terevada (spelling?) Buddhist, while I am Shaman. My parents are Protestant, but more freely and liberal. They simply want us all to have faith, which is really nice. I came out of the broom closet when I was 20 and had moved out. Fear of ridicule was minimal then.
I hope you find a place you're looking for that can bring you peace. A good friend of mine, *balthasarcraft, lives in an RV with her boyfriend and said it's the best decision they ever made because it's so low cost. They can also travel easily if they get tired of their surroundings.
