Art Block Contest ALL MEDIUMS ACCEPTED - Judging

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 24, 2016, 2:23 PM
My Etsy | Tumblr | RedBubble | My AO3 | Fine Art America | Wordpress | Support My Art

Judging has begun.  I've chosen the top ten and placed them in a poll on my devArt profile.  Please read the descriptions before voting.  You can vote for your own piece.  The votes will help me decide which piece works best for the theme. Voting ends September 7th, 2016.

:star:Theme: Artist/Writer's Block:star:
Contest Duration: May 1st, 2016 to September 1st, 2016 at Midnight US Pacific Time
Mediums Accepted: Any and All (this includes literature, CSS, and crafts)

1. Interpret the theme however you want.  You can show how you feel or what you do or even explain how you deal with it, for example.  This is entirely open to individual interpretation.

2. You can create up to THREE entries.  They can be the same medium or vary greatly.
    * If you're creating a literature piece with chapters it will be considered as one entry.  Three chapters will not be three entries.
  * If you want to tell a visual story, but it has different parts similar to chapters, it will be considered as one entry.  Three parts are not three entries.
  * If you contribute a prize but still want to enter you can create only two entries.

3. Collaborating with another artist (or multiple artist) will result in sharing a prize.  If your partner(s) don't want the prize that mean you get it all.
  * Photo manipulations using stock from many artists will not mean they entered unless the stock was created specifically for this contest.
  * No more than four artists can work on a single project due to the nature of the prizes.

4. Your entry, or entries, must be created specifically for this contest.  That means nothing made before May 1st, 2016.  Submit links to all entries in the comments here.

5. In the artist's description of your entry/entries:
  * you must link back to this journal.
  * explain how your entry fits with the theme.  It doesn't matter if the finished piece explains itself, you must put the information in there.
  * credit where credit is due.  If you used stock link back to the stock as well as the artist.
  * if it's a collaboration you must link to your partner(s) art profile, be it on devArt, tumblr, wordpress, Redbubble, or whatever.  You must link back to them.
  * if it's a collaboration it can be entered by only one artist.  Four people worked to create it?  Choose who will be entering it, and in the description explain what each artist did/contributed.

6. I will choose my top ten favorites and place them in a poll for others to vote on them.  If you created three entries only ONE will be placed in the voting poll.

7. There will be three winners.  First place will get to choose their prize first, second will choose the next one, and third will get last pick.  All entries will be featured by me.
  * I will be working on making the prizes over the course of the next few months.  When I finish them they'll be posted in my gallery and featured here to show what the winners will get to choose.
  * If you want to contribute a prize please comment here.  Notes get lost.
  * Prizes will be added over the course of the next few months.  They may range from points to commissions and anything in-between.
  * The prizes I make will be the ones you can choose from unless a prize contributor decides to allow the winners to choose as well.

8. Because the prizes I create will be physical items I will be mailing them to you.  This requires your shipping/mailing address, and I will ship these internationally if the cost is reasonable.  Some countries have outrageous shipping costs, and as such I won't ship to those countries.  Malaysia is the most expensive place I have ever shipped to, and have no intention of mailing anything there again.  It costs a minimum of $30 regardless of the weight or value of the item being shipped.  I had made a prize for a contest someone else held, and the value of said prize was $15 USD.  I lost a great deal of money shipping to them because of weight and value (it cost me $45 USD).
  * If you're not comfortable with giving me your mailing/shipping address but know someone who is I can instead ship the item to them.  They can, in turn, give it to you.
  * If you want someone else to have the prize you choose I will need an address to ship it to if you want me to mail it to them directly.  I can include a card if the item is a gift from you.
  * I'm shipping from the USA.
  * If shipping to you proves to be very expensive and you're will to cover the cost I will be more than happy to send the prize to you.
  * If you live somewhere that shipping is expensive but you know someone who can receive it at a lower cost and ship it to you I can send it to them instead.  They can mail it to you afterwards.

9.  Samples of prizes you may receive can be seen here.  The prizes will vary from table runners, place mat sets, coaster sets, candle mats, and other small items.  I plan on making at least six prize options.  Whatever prizes aren't chosen will be placed in my Etsy shop for purchase.  If you want a prize that wasn't chosen you can purchase it from there.

10. If you have any questions or concerns please comment here.  This journal entry will be updated as prizes are offered and entries are made.

This was created for the Art Block Contest hosted and administered by ChaosFay. This entry describes a particular kind of "art block" that I, personally, suffer from on a regular basis.
A Postcard for Writer's Block Dear Writer's Block,
Hello! How are you? How's your family? Mine's doing just fine. I just want to tell you that after all of our time spent together, I have come to a conclusion.
I want to f***ing kick you in the face. With steel-toed boots on. That also have spurs on them. Then, I will proceed to eat your soul!
Can't wait to see you when we meet up next!

Writer's Block: What my Characters Never KnewRain poured outside the window, thunder crashed as a bolt of lightning light up the darkening Sky. A pitch black room was lit up shortly by the bolt to revel a lone form sitting wrapped up in a blanket. A women's form can be made out laying in a bed with a large mix breed dog next to her. A faint hum filled the air as the figure booted up the laptop; the light then illuminating their face. The faint sound of clicking soon filled the area as the figure entered the password gaining access to the computer. Once in they waited unsure of what to do, that is until a window lined in blue popped up.
"Skype? What the heck is that?" The figure muttered, their voice a hushed whisper hoping not to wake the women or the dog.
Before they could find out a loud ring echoes from the machine making the figure jump out from under the blanket, reviling a pair of pointed ears and tail.
"Yea...no" They growled lowly ears pointed back, the tail lashing and fur on end.

'Cause Imagination sometimes comes from Immitation by YummingDoe4 Writer's Block by I-Write-Strangely Writer's BlockMy fragile lines,
My unstable words.
Corners hardly to hone,
My body shall heal.
Immersed in an empty stream of thought,
I implore a word.
One, that pulls me into the air,
Only far from here, away.
Rhymes behind bars,
Ideas deeply buried.
Hands already trembling,
Verses hardly to carry.
No fishing rod nor net, no foothold,
No anchor is in sight.
The head is so woozy,
Helpless in the maze.
Word dreams sink in black and yellow waves,
In breathtaking spray.
Bound and gagged,
Only feeling cold wind.
No sparkling star,
Tears flow from the letter.
Behold! A word carries me to the place,
Where once cowardly doubts were scattered.
It hands me a towel, puts me into the boat;
A wind hoists my drifting heart.
I smile and thank the syllable image
On our way heavenwards.
This word was a bobbing lifeboat
In tear-flooded emptiness.
It brought the light of a Muse with it,
To become a beacon for me.
Art Block vision by Lumate Arrival by Chobek Development problems (Eng)The canvas had been there for hours, resting on an easel, motionless.
And Yuki had been there for hours, sitting on the floor, staring at a blank canvas on an easel, motionless.
Jeanne instead had arrived only minutes before, but he had quickly realized the situation: a canvas strangely still white, and Yuki so focused in the looking it, for almost unaware of his arrival; she just put two and two. «I’m not a painter, but my intuition tells me that you’re stuck» she began.
Yuki kept her gaze from the canvas, but she replied: «You certainly have a phenomenal insight, ever thought to patent it?» Yuki was a sweet and sympathetic girl, but that doesn’t prevent her from knowing how to be sarcastic and biting, if necessary.
Jeanne was unimpressed that much, and replied with equal sarcasm. «I tried, but the patent office was closed.» Then, turning serious, she added: «I never seen you stuck on a painting, I was convinced you have an u
Writer's Life“Hmm.” I muttered to myself. “What could I possibly write about now?”
The previous week the ideas flooded to me as I finished story after story, and the only major distraction I had was my to-do list. At some points during each day, that list would be a stumbling block to my higher purpose. I would grumble as I checked off each item, desperately craving to sit at my computer and fill empty files with the whirring of my mind.
“Dang, you, life! You are too inconvenient!” I would say, gritting my teeth.
But, today is a different story. I was so efficient with my to-do list for the previous week that I had barely anything left, none of it pressing, for the current one. Now, it was time to write.
I sat at my little desk and turned on the computer. Opening a fresh word processing file, I poised my hands to type. And I stopped. While hurrying through that annoying to-do list, I  had had many ideas, but I was unable to pause for pen and paper. I ran ove

I can only read English.  If it's not in English it can't be entered because I won't be able to read or understand it.

Indeed!  Remember not to force it; that's like trying to push a brick wall out of the way.  I suggest either climbing it, finding a way around, or carving a hole through it.  I find putting playlists together with a specific theme in mind helps me a lot.  For example, I've made playlists for nearly all my OCs.
